Scottish Fashion, Kilts and Tartan. Sherlock Holmes Tartan at the Dressed To Kilt Charity Fashion Event

Following the success of our appearance at the NYC Tartan Week Parade 2022, more and more Sherlockians around the world are solving the mystery and discovering the beauty of the Sherlock Holmes Tartan. Word is spreading beyond 221B Baker Street and we were thrilled to be invited to attend the Dressed to Kilt Charity Fashion event as a Contributing Designer on 23rd July 2022. With the summer season a busy time at the Sherlock Holmes Tartan HQ in Aberdeenshire, it was over to my son Harry to represent the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lineage at the event.

The Dressed To Kilt Scottish Fashion Event

The Dressed To Kilt Charity Fashion Event is known as one of the most prestigious and exciting Scottish fashion events in the world - and it certainly did not disappoint! But before we get to all the juicy details of the 2022 event, here is a little bit of context. The fashion event was started in 2003 by Dr Geoffrey Scott Carroll and Scottish Bond actor Sir Sean Connery and the event is now one of the largest Scottish events in North America!

In addition to supporting and promoting Scottish designers such as Sherlock Holmes Tartan, the Dressed To Kilt event was also started to promote Scotland as the exquisite nation it is. The Scottish fashion event also raises money for charities both here in Scotland and in the USA including Cash for Kids, The Erskine Hospital, The Wounded Warrior Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Sherlock Holmes Tartan, Scottish Fashion and the Dressed To Kilt Event 2022

The theme for the 2022 Dressed To Kilt event, the first in-person event since the pandemic was: “Dress For Adventure: From The Highlands To The Hamptons”. Harry and Christine had the pleasure of attending the Scottish fashion event at Mill Neck Manor. From the 86-acre Great Gatsby estate on the Gold Coast of Long Island, Scottish fashion was celebrated on the global stage it deserves, including Sherlock Holmes Tartan being recognised as a Contributing  Designer for the event! In addition to hosting attendees, including Scottish Fashion Designers and admirers from around the world, there were also some highland coos for a true celebration of Scotland.

The Story Behind Sherlock Holmes Tartan

The Sherlock Holmes tartan which was inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and was chosen as a Contributing Designer for the Dressed To Kilt event was designed to be unisex, whilst retaining a stylish and timeless edge. The muted green and blue base colours of the tartan reflect Conan Doyle’s Irish ancestry and his Scottish birthplace. The accents are inspired by Sherlock Holmes with the ice blue stripe edged with soft brown symbolising the Reichenbach Falls where Moriarty sealed Holmes' fate. Additionally, the golden stripe edged with green represents the fact that Holmes was the top detective in London of his time.
